Genetic Testing
Genetic testing can provide valuable insights into your health, but it must be carefully selected and interpreted within the right clinical context.
We arrange genetic testing through leading international laboratories, supported by expert genetic counselling to ensure results are accurate, meaningful, and clearly understood.
How Genetic
Testing Works
Genetic testing is arranged following your consultation, if appropriate.
Your genetic counsellor will assess your situation and determine whether testing is suitable, and if so, which test is most appropriate.
Once we have agreed on the correct path:
- A home testing kit will be sent to you
- You provide your sample using a simple saliva /cheek swab collection kit
- Your sample is then sent to the relevant laboratory using a prepaid return service
- The laboratory analyses your sample and generates a detailed genetic report. This is reviewed by a genetic counsellor and delivered to you as agreed in your consultation.
- Further genetic counselling support is available if you require this to discuss your results
Sample Collection
Most genetic tests are completed using a simple saliva sample that can be collected at home.
Each testing kit includes clear instructions and a prepaid return package, making the process straightforward and convenient.
In some cases, alternative sample types such as blood tests and/or a cheek swab kit may be recommended, depending on the specific test. This will be discussed with you during your consultation.
Why Testing Is Clinically Guided
Genetic tests cannot be ordered directly by patients.
They must be requested by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure the correct test is selected and results are interpreted appropriately.
Assess whether testing is appropriate
Select the most relevant test for your situation
Explain the benefits and limitations
Interpret your results and guide next steps
This ensures that testing is clinically appropriate and avoids unnecessary or misleading results.
Data Security and Confidentiality
Your data is handled with strict confidentiality throughout the process.
All patient information is stored securely within a UK-compliant clinical platform, and your data is only shared with laboratories where required and with your consent.
We do not share your data with third parties outside of your care pathway.
The clinical platform is accredited by ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus.
Each laboratory is selected based on:
Clinical quality and accuracy
Accreditation and regulatory standards
Turnaround times
Suitability for specific types of testing
This approach ensures you receive reliable, high-quality results tailored to your specific needs.
Our Laboratory Partners
We work with a small number of carefully selected international laboratories, depending on the type of test required.
All laboratories we use are internationally accredited clinical laboratories, meeting recognised standards such as ISO 15189, CAP, and CLIA where applicable.
Our partner laboratories are accredited to the following international standards, ensuring quality, accuracy, and reliability in all genetic testing.
What Happens After Testing?
Once your results are available, they will be reviewed by your genetic counsellor.
Your results will then be shared with you in an appropriate way. If needed, you will be offered further support, including access to a genetic counsellor to help explain your results in more detail and discuss next steps.
